7/10/25, Thursday, 6:00 PM CST until no later than close of 9:00 PM CST OR one can leave whenever they need to leave. This is part of the Duneland Photography Club and ALL are welcome. Come and meet some of the photograpers. It costs $15 for a year. Steve Bensing is the president and one could NOT find a better leader. We meet on the first Tuesdays of each month at the Sunset Hill County Park at the corner of Route 6 and Meridian Road. Here is a Google Map location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/UT9aJVW7aqNdLxHd8 We also sometimes have photo shoots where go out and shoot film/digital like you would not believe. We teach one another.

7/10/25, Thursday, 7:00 PM CST until no later than close of 9:00 PM CST OR one can leave whenever they need to leave. This part of the RECOVERY SERIES of hikes. See https://www.indianaduneshiking.com/recovery-hikes
WHERE: West Beach, an Indiana Dunes National Park location REQUIRING A PARK PASS TO ENTER at the gate house. Here is Google Maps pin to the northern most parking lot with the men and women's bathroom (but not the actual huge bathhouse which you can't of course drive there). This is where we will gather and talk about which walk/hike we want to do first AND the direction of the loop as it does matter.

COST: A GREAT explanation of costs for the Indiana Dunes National Park
and the Indiana Dunes State Park:

WHY: Come and explore West Beach with up to three consecutive walks. We can do just PARTS of them so we Hallelujahave time to take photos.
The first one is flat and easy. West Beach Trail Loop 2
The second is more challenging and longer in length. Long Lake Trail Loop 3
The third one is the Diana of the Dunes Dare which is climbing the 270+ stairs and then down to Lake Michigan and then back through the bathhouse on paved road. This is also called the Dunes Succession Trail Loop 1.
Dunes Succession is what Henry Chandler Cowles of the University of Chicago taught and wrote about to an INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE. The Indiana Dunes is the birth place of ecology and NOT the Glacier National Park, nor the Grand Canyon, nor the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, nor Rocky Mountain National Park, nor Yellowstone, nor ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE U.S.A.
Here is good information, two(2) links, from the Indiana Dunes National Park on West Beach:

The trail highlighted in yellow is called both the Diana of the Dunes Dare and the Dune Succession Trail.
It is My favorite hike at West Beach. Considered RUGGED. We go over 270 steps so this is not for someone who has knee, ankle, or hip afflictions. We go slow and stop often to talk about the dune succession teaching of Henry Chandler Cowles who made the Indiana Dunes the worldwide BIRTH PLACE OF ECOLOGY in 1896!
